Our History
In January 1963, our father, Benjamin E. Stockwell, opened the front doors of what is now known as Stockwell Law Offices. The firm has had several names in the past, but one thing remains constant: since 1963, there has always been a Stockwell at our location. In 1990, my sister, Peggy, and I became owners of the office and have carried on the tradition that our father began by providing quality, ethical legal representation for persons with legal problems.
When our father started the firm, he and the other lawyers in the firm handled a wide variety of legal problems for people. They ranged from bankruptcy to civil actions, personal injury, criminal cases to family law. Through the firm's evolution over the past 40 years, my sister and I have chosen to limit the areas of laws we practice to family law, DUI law, criminal law, personal injury, paternity, guardianship, wills, and Expungement law. This focus has allowed us to become more knowledgeable in our respective areas, thus providing a better service to you. Currently the firm has two attorneys -- myself and my sister -- and four support staff.
We are still located in the same building in which our father opened this law practice and plan to remain at this same location for many years to come. Growing up in Norman, Oklahoma, Peggy and I recognized early on the value of involved community leaders, and have always felt that there is a need to return something to our community by doing volunteer work.
Throughout the years, our firm has been involved in the Cleveland County Bar Association and the Oklahoma Bar Association. Our father was a past Vice-President of the Oklahoma Bar Association, and Peggy and I have both served as President of the Cleveland County Bar Association. In addition to our past executive service, Peggy and I continue to serve on numerous committees and task forces for the Oklahoma Bar Association, helping to ensure a bright future for lawyers in Oklahoma.
Most recently, Peggy was elected to The Oklahoma Bar Association Board of Governors. This is the governing body for over 15,000 lawyers with in the state of Oklahoma. We both participate in civic endeavors, donating many hours of our time and knowledge assisting local civic and non-profit groups. Currently, I am chairman of the Cleveland County Community Sentencing Planning Counsel and Co-Chairman of the Cleveland County Drug Court. Peggy currently serves as a member of the Cleveland County Board of Health. In addition to these activities, we routinely assist the Norman Public Schools in fundraising activities. Our commitment to our family, our community, and our clients is strong.
If you are in need of legal services, please give us a call. If we are not able to help you, we will certainly assistant you in finding competent representation for whatever legal problem you may have.
Sincerely,
Dave Stockwell
